Our language research team is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students who participate in the Linguistics Research Practicum on a semester-long basis. Team members contribute to construction and submission of IRB applications, literature reviews, data gathering, analysis and distribution.

Ariana Azlin
As a senior pursuing a degree in Linguistics at Ohio University, my objective upon completion of my undergraduate studies is to secure a position in the field of translation or copywriting. My academic focus revolves around bilingualism and sociolinguistics, with a keen interest in exploring the intricacies of various languages within East Asian cultures. My aspirations involve extensive travel and engagement with diverse languages, aiming to broaden my professional experience across linguistic boundaries.

Lina Goniea-Richards
I am a senior majoring in Linguistics with a minor in Japanese and a certificate in Asian Studies. My current goal is receiving a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) as I finish my undergraduate studies at Ohio University. My primary research interests are minority language and ethnological documentation with a focus on Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. My future goal is to live, work, and conduct research in Northern Thailand.
Ian McGee
I am a senior undergraduate student at Ohio University pursuing a major in Linguistics and a minor in Computer Science, as well as a member of the Ohio Honors Program. My primary research/development interests are in Natural Language Processing, Computer-Assisted Translation, and applying Computational Linguistics methods to Language Documentation and Corpus Linguistics. Previously in this research lab I’ve worked with transcription and phonetic analysis of interviews for the Southern Ohio Language Project.
Will Mullen
I completed my BA in Linguistics here at Ohio University, and I am currently in the second year of OU’s Applied Linguistics MA program. My current research interests include phonetics and phonology, sociolinguistics, and discourse analysis. Previously, I researched the sociocultural and phonetic constraints in the occurrence of the [ing] phonological variable in Appalachian Englishes. At the moment, I plan to continue my education at the Ph.D. level, where I hope to undertake similar research
