Shouan Zhu
Shouan Zhu
Shouan was born and raised in China. He did his 1st phase of PhD training at Zhejiang University in China. He then moved to the US to complete his 2nd phase of PhD training and a short-term postdoc training at the Johns Hopkins University. There he discovered that osteoclasts in subchondral bone secrete axonal guidance cues to promote sensory innervation and OA pain. He then completed his formal postdoc training in the Aging and Metabolism research program at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF). His research there was focused on studying Sirt3 and its regulation of protein acetylation on metabolism and OA development. He is now directing the Osteoarthritis Research Laboratory at Ohio University, leading a group of senior scientists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students studying the basic mechanisms of OA. In his free time, you can find him busy with his two kids and play tennis and pickle ball with friends.
