Amber Schnittjer

Amber presented a poster entitled "Unique Sensorimotor Cortical Organization in Individuals with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction". The main takeaway is that cortical organization following ACLR may indicate a shift of involved knee sensorimotor representation, potentially elevating motor planning, attention, and visuospatial perception associated neural activity.

HoWon Kim

At the 2022 Society for Neuroscience conference, HoWon Kim presented preliminary data that aimed to establish a relationship between brain activity during a force control task and knee proprioception error at 6 weeks post ACLR. The data was obtained from seven participants who took part in the DoD study, the primary research project at the NMBHAL lab.

HoWon discovered a positive correlation between lingual gyrus and precuneus activity and proprioceptive error, as well as a negative correlation between frontal pole activity and proprioceptive error. These results suggest that individuals who have undergone ACLR and exhibit greater proprioception deficits may employ compensatory brain activation during a force control task, possibly indicating an early sensory reweighting process involving vision.
