Rehabilitation 2.0: Addressing Neuroplasticity in the Musculoskeletal Model
Researchers at Ohio University are evaluating how an injury may change brain activity and affect physical performance. Through the use of Magnetic Resonance Imagine (MRI) at different time points after an injury, it will be possible to determine how the brain adapts. This may have a significant impact on the future of rehabilitation therapies. Individuals will undergo a variety of testing, including: MRI imaging, Virtual Reality Balance, Strength, Hopping, and Proprioception. Testing will take place in Grover Center on the Athens Ohio University Campus and at Holzer Clinic in Athens.
Quantifying Physical Performance during Typical Clinical Return to Activity testing
Researchers at Ohio University are investigating how healthy individuals respond to additional tests on a typical return to activity testing protocol. Neurocognitive challenges are being added to the K-STARTS protocol in an attempt to enhance the understanding of how individuals function under distracted attention. Participants will undergo activities that involve landing, hopping, and agility. Heart rate and exertion will be monitored throughout the protocol. All testing will take place in Grover Center on the Athens Ohio University campus.
Quadriceps Neural and Muscle Activation Patterns Elicited by Virtual Reality
Researchers at Ohio University are evaluating how an augmented virtual reality exercise (VRE) may influence brain activity and muscle function. Function Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) and Electromyography (EMG) will noninvasively record brain and muscle activity to study effects of VRE. This may have a significant impact on the future of rehabilitation therapies and muscle strengthening. Participants will undergo strength testing while immersed in a Virtual Reality headset. All testing will take place in Grover Center on the Athens Ohio University campus.
