Our lab director, Dr. Jenny Grant Weinandy, looked at motives gamblers believed might lead them to treatment in the future to understand how much gamblers are considering potential reasons to seek treatment when needed. This work showed that, in general, gamblers are not considering any particular motive as a reason to seek treatment and may not know when they need to seek treatment in the future. This suggests more needs to be done to help gamblers consider what problematic gambling looks like for them as a form of prevention.
